Burley craft and cider fair
Oh deer not more cider
Tradional crafts
As always at this event there were a small but dedicated group of craftsmen and women making and selling a good range of produccts.
There was a blacksmith making building supports, a jeweler/silversmith making bracelets and a hurdlemaker.
There were also no less than 5 Members of members of Hampshire Coppice Group making and selling a range of items including: A willow weaver making baskets, a leather worker making belts and other items, a wood worker making spoons and other items a woodland educator and a broom squire.
Wildlife
For those not familiar with the New Forest it is a former Royal hunting forest covering some 28,924.5-hectares. The word new is a little misleading as it dates back to the Norman conquest like many places with the word new in the title.
It is almost unique in its makeup and still has its own court and legal system. Another quirk of the forest is the fact that grazing animals such as New Forest ponies, deer cattle and pigs roam freely across much of the forest with only a few areas enclosed to keep them out.
Oh Deer more wildlife
So what of the deer, well due to the popularity of Burley as a visitor location parking in the council carpark is often at a premium so we ended up parked in the ground of Burley manor hotel.
With the grounds they have a very impressive heard of Red Deer, so we thought we would go and say hello.
the head of this heard is an impressive Imperial stag denoted by it’s 14 point antlers.
Below are just a fiew of the Images I took of this amazing animal.
